Digital Learning Day

by Jim LeFager 1/28/2014 7:00:00 AM

Digital Learning Day

February 5th, is Digital Learning Day!  On Digital Learning Day, teachers and students from across the United States come together to celebrate applying effective applications of digital learning in schools that support teachers, improve learning, and provide options for students to achieve their highest potential.  This annual celebration was started by the Alliance for Excellent Education, a Washington, DC–based national policy and advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring that all students, particularly those who are traditionally underserved, graduate from high school ready for success in college, work, and citizenship.  Digital Learning Day is a K-12 activity, though the materials and resources provided by Digital Learning day support educators at all levels.

Over 400 events from around the county have been added to the Digital Learning Day website.  Educators hosting events will be making use of the interactive lesson plans and teaching toolkits available in several different subject areas, including English language arts, math, science, social studies, and more.  There is also a section of their website dedicated to tools that can be used by everyone.

As part of Digital Learning Day, there will be a national showcase event that will be broadcast live on the internet from the Library of Congress. The showcase will be hosted by the coanchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour, Judy Woodruff, and it will feature U.S. Representative George Miller, Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, Acting U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education James H. Shelton III, Wyoming State Senator Rich Crandall, and Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Lillian Lowery.
