Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. And in honor of this national holiday, the sound of bottlerockets have been heard throughout Chicago neighborhoods since Monday. If you want to see an impressive (professional) display of fireworks this weekend, look no farther than the Loop:
July 3rd: Grant Park
300 S. Columbus Drive
More than a million spectators flood the lakefront to see one of the country's most spectacular displays set to music from 101.9 WTMX-FM (9 p.m.). The 85th Army Band kicks off festivities with a patriotic concert at Petrillo Music Shell (7:30 p.m.).
July 4th: Navy Pier
600 E. Grand Ave
Patriotic music accompanies the annual 15-minute display over Lake Michigan.
The DePaul University Libraries will be closed Friday July 3 and Saturday July 4 in recognition of Independence Day.
